Position Title: Accounting Assistant

Position Purpose:
Processing of invoices on time to avoid penalties and interest as per the National Treasury and Transnet regulations.

Position outputs:
• Capture all FI & MM payments
Capture & Park invoices
Process credit notes if applicable
Filing of all aid invoices

  • Reconcile all allocated GL and vendor accounts
    Make adjustment when needed
    Reconciliation of income statement GL accounts
    Requesting vendor statements
    Follow up on outstanding invoices/payments

Do monthly vendor reconciliations
• Process all internal journals
Receive and number all internal journals on an excel spreadsheet
Capture & Park all journals on SAP
Assist with all queries from cost centers and make adjustments if necessary
• SSC Payment Process
Invoice training
Project creation
Invoice validation
Clearing of training station Invoice rejection
• Issue of petty cash, maintain petty cash register
Process petty cash requests on Standard bank instant money bulk payment portal
• General office and administrative support when required

Qualifications & Experience:
A grade 12 qualification is required
At least 5 years experience in a similar position is required
Previous experience in various modules of Financial and Accounting systems is a recommendation
SAP experience is essential
Requirement of trust and honesty in the handling of finances as per the National Credit Act Amendment 19

Knowledge:
Sound knowledge of accounting principles
Systems analysis and implementation processes
All applicable legislation
Good knowledge of PFMA
Good knowledge of Transnet accounting policies and cut off procedures
Inherent Requirements of the job:
Driver’s license code 8
Willing to work extended working hours
